Message from the President
Welcome PMI Minnesota and Outreach Community! This month I am thrilled to announce many exciting new possibilities and positive changes in our organization. Last year we sent a survey to our PMI Minnesota and Outreach member community to find out how we can better serve you. We appreciate your valuable input and have incorporated your feedback into our programs, operations, and services to meet your needs. Several improvements include: - Re-initiating the complimentary “Lunch & Learn” webinar programming quarterly to offer additional PDUs at a more convenient time.
- Offering both complimentary and fee-based events to ensure accessible PDU opportunities and reinforce our organization’s long-term sustainability.
- Introducing programming focused on a wide-range of leadership, strategic and diversity topics to allow growth and development as high-achieving Project Management Professionals.
- Ensuring our members can stay competitive by offering certification preparatory courses for career growth in addition to ample PDU opportunities for certification maintenance. Learn more below!
- Remaining virtual in accordance with the CDC until it’s safe to return to in-person events.
Our talented and dedicated volunteers are the reason why we can provide career growth programming and services to our membership. Thank you for your commitment! Additionally, we are grateful to have strategic operating partners and sponsors to support our continued success as a chapter. We are excited to test our AGILITY and make necessary changes to deliver great service to the project management community and stakeholders. We are excited to connect with you virtually and hear your thoughts and ideas! Join us for a discussion on our chapter and PM community at PMI MN’s Annual Membership Business Meeting on May 25, 2021 from 6:00-7:00pm. Register today on our event registration website.
Hope to see you soon!
Sincerely, Ruth Birkholz, MMIS, PMP® PMI MN President, CEO |

It’s that time of the year again! Join us for PMI MN’s Annual Professional Development Days (PDD) on September 27-28, 2021. The theme this year is “Project Management Defining the Future.” With the arrival of Covid-19, our way of life is forever changed; most notably, the way we work. The demand for project managers has been steady while countless other industries are shrinking. So, as project managers, we are at the forefront of defining what the future of work looks like. Like last year, this year’s PDD will be virtual as the safety of our members, volunteers, and their families remains our top priority. While we miss seeing everyone in person, there are unique benefits to going virtual! Here are just a few: - No matter where you are, you can attend! Engage with attendees from the comfort of your home office or if you’re on the go, join with your mobile device or laptop.
- You can learn, network, and connect with project management professionals from across the country and maybe even across the globe!
- There’s ample opportunity to collect PDUs to maintain your PMI certification. Physical barriers won’t hold you back!
Save the date for September 27-28, 2021 and get ready to define the future of project management! We can’t wait to see you virtually! More information coming soon.
Project Management Professional (PMP) and Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM) Training Classes from PMI MN!
PMI MN is here to support our members as they continue to add skills through training or certifications. For those members who are interested in adding the PMP or DASM designation, we have partnered with an Approved Training Provider (ATP) and as a chapter offer one certification prep class for each PMP and DASM each quarter. Last December, PMI MN reached out to our members for certifications that would be of interest and Disciplined Agile was high on the list. In March, we completed our first Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM) prep class. We received great feedback from participants including: “I learned a lot and feel well-prepared for the DASM Certification Exam”, “The instructor had good energy”, and “I thought the group dynamic was great!”. We encourage you to sign-up for the next DASM exam prep class scheduled for June 11-12 as full day workshops! Also, for our PMP Prep offering, PMI now requires all PMP and DASM instructors become certified and teach material designed by PMI. This now provides standardized certification classes and materials for all students. The next PMP class is scheduled for April 19-23 for five full days. We will also have another PMP class scheduled for this summer, to run Wednesday and Thursday evenings for five weeks. To learn more please visit the PMI event calendar.
