Message from the President
Welcome PMI Minnesota and Outreach Community! This month I want to recognize contributions and sacrifices our military members make for our country. With Memorial Day coming up on May 31st, I encourage you to pause and reflect on those who put their lives before ours. They provide us with freedoms we have the privilege of experiencing every day. PMI Minnesota has a Military Outreach Program within our Outreach Committee that recognizes the contributions of our military members’ service. The program provides a wide range of resources and services, offered and supported by PMI Global, which also has a strong commitment to military members. If you have served in the military and are a member of PMI Minnesota (or would like to be!), please reach out to our Military Outreach Program Manager for additional details. We are here to assist you in any way! PMI Minnesota has expanded benefits to members through our partnership with PMI Global’s affiliate program. PMI Global has made their exciting new program offerings discounted through affiliate chapters by signing up at projectmanagementinstitute.grsm.io/minnesotachapter5902. Discounts on registration pricing for programs include: Wicked Problem Solving, PMI Ascent, and Kick-off. Additional program offerings will be added soon. Take advantage of these program discounts and build your Project Management skills! We are also excited to launch Professional Development Days (PDD) registration next month! Along with registration, we will feature: - Early Bird pricing for ALL attendees.
- A pricing model that benefits students, PMI Members and PMI MN Members.
- Our schedule! Speakers, tracks with PDUs breakdowns, and exciting topics will all be available to view!
PDD is going virtual again this fall from September 26-28, 2021 – Mark your calendars! You may be wondering: Why virtual? Everything is opening back up! Our PDD Committee is formed after our annual event to capture attendee feedback to improve the next year’s PDD. It also allows the committee to hit the ground running planning a fantastic event for our members and broader Project Management community. Due to the slow initial roll out of vaccines, the spike in COVID-19 cases in Q1 2021, and the utmost concern for the safety of our attendees, we made the decision to create a virtual experience for PDD 2021. We hope to meet in-person next year but until then, we look forward to connecting with you screen-to-screen! So, when will we start hosting in-person PMI Minnesota and Community Outreach events? We, in coordination with PMI Global guidance, are monitoring the ever-changing environmental conditions in our local metropolitan and outreach communities. PMI Minnesota and our Outreach Committee are hoping we can offer in-person events later this year – It looks promising! Our Board and Operations Committee are working over the next couple months to finalize protocols that will keep our members and attendees safe at PMI Minnesota events. As always, thank you for your commitment to our chapter. You, our members, strengthen our community and cultivate positive change in the PM profession. I hope you’re able to get outside and enjoy this warm spring weather!
Sincerely, Ruth Birkholz, MMIS, PMP® PMI MN President, CEO |

It’s that time of the year again! Join us for PMI MN’s Annual Professional Development Days (PDD) on September 27-28, 2021. The theme this year is “Project Management Defining the Future.” With the arrival of Covid-19, our way of life is forever changed; most notably, the way we work. The demand for project managers has been steady while countless other industries are shrinking. So, as project managers, we are at the forefront of defining what the future of work looks like. Like last year, this year’s PDD will be virtual as the safety of our members, volunteers, and their families remains our top priority. While we miss seeing everyone in person, there are unique benefits to going virtual! Here are just a few: - No matter where you are, you can attend! Engage with attendees from the comfort of your home office or if you’re on the go, join with your mobile device or laptop.
- You can learn, network, and connect with project management professionals from across the country and maybe even across the globe!
- There’s ample opportunity to collect PDUs to maintain your PMI certification. Physical barriers won’t hold you back!
Save the date for September 27-28, 2021 and get ready to define the future of project management! We can’t wait to see you virtually! More information coming soon.
