A message from the President:

Dear PMI-MN Chapter Members:
I have seen the snow melt, the ice out and spring finally starting here in Minnesota. Now that the weather is finally improving, I hope you will be able to come out to some of our PMI-MN events and meet other PMI members and volunteers. Please see the events in this newsletter.
We continue to offer many great products virtually and face to face events this year, please continue to check the PMI-MN website www.pmi-mn.org for updates and programs. Below this letter are the April and May calendar of events. I will also continue to keep updates in the local, regional, and global events. For those of you that volunteer, please add your volunteer hours to this website, https://portal.pmi-mn.org each month. It is important for you as a member to receive volunteer hours to sign up for events etc.
I am adding the professional development information for one more month to make sure everyone has seen all these offerings. The team created many new offerings this year. Thanks to Prasad Mathekar, Katie Wright, and the professional development team for all of their hard work. The Professional Development Committee at PMI Minnesota has developed a strong, enduring partnership with great training provider companies to train the project management professionals by providing value-added services, more than 40+ certifications at a discounted price, professional programs, and active information exchange. Here is the list of all offerings. If you have any questions related to the certification registration or interested in registering, please contact Chair Professional development chairprofdev@pmi-mn.org.

Michael O'Connor, PhD, MSPM, MSTM, MBA, PE.
PMI MN President, CEO

I am adding the professional development information for one more month to make sure everyone has seen all these offerings. The team created many new offerings this year. Thanks to Prasad Mathekar, Katie Wright, and the Professional Development team for all of their hard work. The Professional Development Committee at PMI Minnesota has developed a strong, enduring partnership with great training provider companies to train the project management professionals by providing value-added services, more than 40+ certifications at a discounted price, professional programs, and active information exchange. Here is the list of all offerings. If you have any questions related to the certification registration or interested in registering, please contact the Chair of Professional Development chairprofdev@pmi-mn.org.

Certification programs that are not fully hosted by PMI-MN; we will not be able to have PMI-MN members utilize their volunteer hours. If the certification program is hosted fully by PMI-MN, you could use your volunteer hours. Logistically, PMI Minnesota is not involved in the registration process, and financially we are only receiving a portion of the cost from the vendors. To allow participants to pay through volunteer hours, PMI-MN would need to pay the difference, and that cost would be too high for the chapter to incur.

May 20 will promote academic research within the field of project management, PMI-MN is sponsoring a research study investigating the influence of ethical culture on professional project managers. The study is expected to start on June 1 and end September 30. For sponsoring this study, the PMI-MN Scholarship Fund will receive a financial contribution of up to $1,200. All PMP certified professional project managers are eligible to participate in the study. Participation consists of completing a 41-item online survey, which takes approximately 10–12 minutes. The surveys are anonymous. Look for more information on the PMI-MN website beginning in May.

The International Institute for Learning (IIL) and its Advantage Program is up and running, which customizes a benefits program designed to meet the evolving needs of associations, local chapters, and their members. Increase and retain members, added valued learning services for members and leaders, and increase revenue through new and innovative services. We hope to have a meeting to roll this out soon.

The PMI LIM was held in San Diego April 14-16, 2023. It was one of the best LIM’s they have had in many years. We also held the PMI-MN Gala for the 2022 volunteers. It was a great event at the American Swedish Institute. Please look out for the PMI-MN Gala in 2024, April 27, 2024 at the Bakken Museum in Minneapolis from 5pm to 9pm.

Help PMI-MN Raise Money for the PMI-MN Scholarship Fund

To encourage and advance academic research in the field of project management, PMI-MN is proud to support a research study led by Keith Anderson in partnership with Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, a long-standing PMI-MN sponsor. Mr. Anderson is investigating the influence of organizational ethical culture on an individual’s self-concept within temporary organizations. Results from this study will be used to inform organizational policy and professional development strategies related specifically to the field of project management.

PMI-MN will receive scholarship funding for each completed survey, up to a total of $1,200. This fundraiser expires on September 30th, 2023. You do not need to be a member of PMI-MN to participate. Please share the link to this webpage with other PMP certified professional project managers.

May Volunteer of the Month

The PMI MN Chapter is honored to present Katie Wright as our May 2023 Volunteer of the Month.

Thank you so much for all the hard work, dedication, and long hours of continuous work. Katie has managed and has done a phenomenal job in playing multiple roles by managing seminars, certification,  contract negotiation with training provider companies, and working through the finish line of contracts. Her mastery of technical writing and communications with our speakers, vendors, and members has enhanced our partnerships. With your help, Professional Development Committee was able to provide a plethora of benefits to our members. We truly couldn’t have done it without you.

The work Katie has put in as a volunteer contributes to our overall mission or vision of our Chapter and has really shined by going above and beyond her role. She has become invaluable to this committee.

Thanks again for all your hard work, support, leadership and guidance, and we appreciate for all you do.
