Message from the President: Dear PMI-MN Chapter Members: We finally have warmer weather and with the longer days and warmer weather I am seeing signs of spring. I hope you will be able to come out to some of our PMI-MN events and meet other PMI members and volunteers. Please see the events in this newsletter.
We continue to offer many great products virtually and face to face events this year, Please continue to check the PMI-MN website www.pmi-mn.org for updates and programs. Below this letter are the March and April calendar of events. I will also continue to keep updates in the local, regional, and global events.
Very excited to have the professional development team create many new offerings this year. Thanks to Prasad Mathekar, Katie Wright and the professional development team for all of their hard work. The Professional Development Committee at PMI Minnesota has developed a strong, enduring partnership with great training provider companies to train the project management professionals by providing value-added services, more than 40+ certifications at a discounted price, professional programs, and active information exchange. Here is the list of all offerings. If you have any questions related to the certification registration or interested in registering, please contact Chair Professional development chairprofdev@pmi-mn.org.
Certification programs are not fully hosted by PMI-MN; we will not be able to have PMI-MN members utilize their volunteer hours. If the certification program is hosted fully by PMI-MN, you could use your volunteer hours. Logistically, PMI Minnesota is not involved in the registration process and financially we are only receiving a portion of the cost from the vendors. To allow participants to pay through volunteer hours, PMI-MN would need to the pay the difference, and that cost would be too high for the chapter to incur. Be on the lookout in May to help promote academic research within the field of project management, PMI-MN is sponsoring a research study investigating the influence of ethical culture on professional project managers. The study is expected to start on June 1 and end September 30. For sponsoring this study, the PMI-MN Scholarship Fund will receive a financial contribution of up to $1,200. All PMP certified professional project managers are eligible to participate in the study. Participation consists of completing a 41-item online survey which takes approximately 10-12 minutes. The surveys are anonymous. Look for more information on the PMI-MN website beginning in May.
We have entered to in an agreement with the International Institute for Learning (IIL) and it’s Advantage Program, which is a customizes benefits program designed to meet the evolving needs of associations, local chapters, and their members. Increase and retain members, added valued learning services for members and leaders and increase revenue through new and innovative services. We hope to have a meeting to roll this out soon.

Important Note for Members and Volunteers: Going forward, in an effort to better manage PMI MN's resources and expenses, all accounts that have been inactive for 6 months or longer will be removed from Microsoft 365 and SharePoint. If you wish to maintain your accounts, please be sure these are active. PMI ® Global Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion PMI, as a global organization, has established a position about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This statement is posted on the PMI website: As a global leader enabling individuals to create a positive impact through projects, PMI champions a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community – one that serves our millions of stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, members, credential holders, and the profession at large. We embrace and celebrate our differences, and work to create an environment of respect, trust, integrity and fairness in our words and actions. We commit ourselves to empower individuals to do their best work. We aspire to act as a catalyst to bridge cultures, geographies, and differences, and to enable people and organizations to positively impact society. New Volunteer Engagement Platform (Formerly VRMS) We are excited to announce that the first release of the new Volunteer Engagement Platform (VEP) has launched. The VEP is PMI's official volunteer recruitment tool and is the number one place interested volunteers go to get involved. By utilizing the updated platform, your chapter can tap into over 100,000+ volunteers who have already expressed an interest in volunteering. With updated functionality and increased efficiencies, the new platform will provide a more user-friendly and integrated volunteer recruitment experience for chapters. In addition, use of the platform will ensure a chapter’s volunteer community is integrated into PMI’s global volunteer engagement efforts, training support, data collection and recognition programs. This is the first of many major updates to the VEP, formerly known as the Volunteer Relationship Management System (VRMS). Included in this first release is an updated interface, mobile-friendly webpages, and new alerts to highlight system updates.

April Volunteer of the Month As the Programs Committee Chair, Michael Schafer has been a driving force in bringing in chapter revenue over the last year or so by scheduling a robust line-up of event speakers for chapter breakfasts and dinners. In March of 2023, Michael led his team to hold the first live dinner event since the pandemic - a huge success in terms of participation, networking, and revenue. Michael also has created an updated PMSFL format that was used at a program held last Fall at Bethel University. Over 40 people attended this program and, in addition to raising revenue for our chapter, this format helped strengthen our partnership with Bethel University, a key sponsor for our Chapter. Michael is more than deserving of being named Volunteer of the Month.
